The Patient Journey

In today’s retail world, successful companies provide engaging and exceptional customer experiences. They continue to transform and innovate. Health care organizations have tried to emulate this success, but results have been mixed. Key barriers, such as a lack of health literacy, have left many patients confused, lost or frustrated.

For these reasons, it is critical health care organizations develop a sound patient journey map. The journey map provides patients an indispensable guide for how to engage with your organization and the wider health care ecosystem.

Virginia Kafer, health care strategy director for Bluespire Marketing, helps organizations build relationships with consumers. A practitioner of human centered design, she develops realistic strategies that are based in the consumer experience and aligned with corporate goals.

With 20 years of consumer relationship marketing experience, Virginia has been a part of many firsts:

  • the first loyalty health care program designed for patient engagement
  • the first program designed to impact quality ratings
  • most recently, an innovation team focused on improving patient access

Virginia earned a master’s degree in business administration from the University of St. Thomas, and she recently completed a fellowship at the University of Minnesota.
